Video Description

Henry and Jaemi discuss Jaemi’s experience being deaf and growing up in a hearing family.

Reviewer Notes

  • Jaemi and Henry discuss the importance of acceptance, support and family. Sharing their communication experiences, Jaemi gives Henry insight into how hearing family members can be supportive of Deaf family members. This conversation has some practical moments, and others that are contemplative.
  • This video was a joy to interpret. The type of video where you just get lost in the interpretation and it doesn’t feel like you are thinking too hard. The video had some lag at the beginning but clears up after a short while. The video is moderately paced and offers a range of opportunities to expand on concepts or interpret something differently when it is repeated.

About this Video

The interactive videos in this series were created in partnership during the Graduation to Certification program through a collaboration between the CATIE Center and the Duluth Branch of the NAACP. These unscripted conversations were interpreted by novice interpreters in the GTC program and the video was edited to the best of our ability to remove the interpretation to create practice material. There may be some legacies of the original interpretation such as repetition due to the original interpreter asking for clarification or sometimes all of the interpretation may not be edited out due to overlapping communication.
