Ryan, who teaches at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf (MSAD) shares his experiences teaching during COVID-19 outbreak in spring of 2020, identifying challenges, new teaching strategies and unexpected collaborations that came as a result of the pandemic. Doug, who lives in Duluth, Minnesota shared what he observed of his partner’s teaching experiences and what he noted in his work with area schools.

- The discussion is a series of sharing experiences and follow up questions, and as a result offers quite a bit of questioning in both languages. Examples of programs used during on-line teaching, methods of keeping students engaged, as well as the issue of serving DeafBlind students during this time provide the interpreter with a variety of challenges.

About this Video
The interactive videos in this series were created in partnership during the Graduation to Certification program through a collaboration between the CATIE Center and the Duluth Branch of the NAACP. These unscripted conversations were interpreted by novice interpreters in the GTC program and the video was edited to the best of our ability to remove the interpretation to create practice material. There may be some legacies of the original interpretation such as repetition due to the original interpreter asking for clarification or sometimes all of the interpretation may not be edited out due to overlapping communication.
