Step 1: Select a Text
Choose an ASL source text that is between 5 – 10 minutes.

Step 2: Predict the Goal
Analyze the title or topic of the signed text. From reading this – what do you think the GOAL if the signer is?

Step 3: Watch the Video
Watch the video. When finished, considering your answer from the previous question. Is the goal of the speaker what you thought it would be?

Step 4: Identify the Theme
THEME: Think of a sentence that would describe the point of this video. If this is a story, what is the moral of the story?

Step 5: Identify Main Points
Without viewing the video again, write down main points of the video in order in an outline format.

Step 6: List Objectives
OBJECTIVE: Watch the text again and attempt to identify any “chunks” of contents within the video. The objectives can be portrayed as series of main points or an introduction, series of topics, and a conclusion. Create a reference marker for each objective. (I, II, III, or A, B, C)

Step 7: List Units
UNIT: Considering your answer from the previous question. Re-watch the video and pause when needed and write down any main points within each objective. Document reference marker in reference to Step 6. Leave the blue section blank.

Step 8: Identify Details
DETAIL: Before watching the video again, recall all of the small details (fingerspelling words, date, name, location). Watch the video again and pause when needed and write down unit in the blue sections under seven number seven.
