Description of the Program

The apprenticeship experience will consist of hands up/voice on interpreting time, structured mentorship meetings, tailored skill development activities, and group professional development. VIIS is a large community agency in the state of Vermont, as well as an agency that provides services nationwide to several organizations. Vancro staff will work with each apprentice to develop a program that fits their needs and supports intentional skill development aimed at achieving the apprentices' long-term goals in the interpreting field.

The apprenticeship program is a paid program. Apprentices are guaranteed 40 hours/month at $27/hr (a total of 160 hours over the four month period). When possible and appropriate given the needs of the community and the apprentice's skill level, Vancro will make every effort possible to provide more than 40 hours/month of paid work. The Department of Labor in Vermont offers a relocation stiped for people moving to the state of Vermont for work. While the stipend is not guaranteed, Vancro will make every effort possible to connect the apprentice with the Department of Labor and assist them in receiving a relocation stipend.
