Reviewer Notes

  • This scenario is well-paced and suitable for the advanced student and novice interpreter. Challenges include schema around camping, spatial set up, SASSs, and classifiers. Genre: Inquiry with embedded narrative.
  • I would use this video with students at an intermediate to advanced level.
  • The pace is good. The vocabulary is good for a recent IEP graduate. I like the use of local names to be fingerspelled and the use of measurement signs needed here.
  • This video is well paced for a novice interpreter and involves a lot of imagery. It is a good opportunity to practice using classifiers for human and animal movement.

About this Video

The interactive videos in this series were created in partnership during the Graduation to Certification program through a collaboration between the CATIE Center and the Duluth Branch of the NAACP. These unscripted conversations were interpreted by novice interpreters in the GTC program and the video was edited to the best of our ability to remove the interpretation to create practice material. There may be some legacies of the original interpretation such as repetition due to the original interpreter asking for clarification or sometimes all of the interpretation may not be edited out due to overlapping communication.
