This is a list of opportunities providing novice interpreters support as they enter the field. The information was provided by the organizations administering the programs. Click here to submit a program for inclusion in the directory.
If you are searching by location, we recommend searching for both national programs and those that operate specifically within your state. To find national programs, search on the word “national”. If you are looking for programs that operate in your specific state, enter the full state name or the two letter abbreviation (example: “Vermont” or “VT”). Some programs may be local, only providing opportunities within a given state.

Description of the Program | M2E is a program designed to improve communication access across Greater Minnesota! Interpreters have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of experienced Deaf and hearing mentors throughout our sixteen-week program. These sessions aim to build interpreters’ confidence and skills when accepting a wide variety of community assignments. Through individual and group virtual mentoring sessions, and in-depth interpreting evaluations, interpreters have the opportunity to work on various interpreting skills in a structured, supportive environment. The Mentoring-2-Excellence Program is provided by ASLIS and is supported by grant funding from the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division. |

Deadlines for Application | The M2E Program runs twice a year, once in the Fall and one in the Spring. The next round of M2E will run from February 6 - May 26, 2023. Applications will open on January 16th. |
Duration of the Program | This program runs for approximately 16 weeks. Accepted mentees can schedule up to 16 individual mentoring sessions with Deaf and hearing mentors currently working as freelance mentors with ASLIS. Mentees will provide four short interpreting samples via GoReact at the beginning and end of the program, complete a pre, mid, and post-program self-evaluation, and attend added events depending on current course curriculum. |

Detailed description of geographic area | Eligible applicants must either be currently working as an interpreter. Applicants must either reside in Greater Minnesota (any county besides the seven counties that comprise the metro area*), or work at least 25 hours in Greater Minnesota in a given quarter.
