Stepping Stones for Novice Interpreters    TO    Moodle logo

The CATIE Center is transitioning its Stepping Stones courses to Moodle.  Canvas has suspended its Free for Teacher version after it was hacked.  On May 28-29, Canvas opened Free for Teacher site to allow us to download backups of all our courses. We are working on transitioning courses over to Moodle, a learning management system, that the CATIE Center will have more control over.  You can see our progress at:  https://catiecenter.cloud

Our priority is to make available the courses we plan to facilitate this summer. We have access updated for:

New Account

In the transition between Canvas to Moodle, we were not able to transfer work in student accounts. You will need to set up a new account. We have created a guide to support you in that process.

FAQs

Unfortunately, we were not able to save and transfer student work. If you were partially through a course, you can simply note in required boxes that you did the assignment previously in Canvas.  We are sorry that this information was lost.

The Dive In project continues on to September 30, 2026 and we will use Moodle for access to our resources at least until that time. Canvas has said that they will introduce a new version to replace Free for Teacher in the fall and we will see if that will fit the CATIE Center’s needs moving forward. We are exploring other options to allow for affordable access to our resources.

We will appreciate your feedback about using Moodle.

With such short notice regarding the shutdown of Canvas, we made a rapid transition to Moodle and we know that there will be some errors in the courses. We greatly appreciate if you will either post a note in the “Ask CATIE:  Support Forum” in each course or send an email to catiecenter@stkate.edu with a link to the page with the error and a description of what isn’t working correctly.
